Willmar, Minn., Middle School stage production 'Alice in Wonderland Jr.' opens run tonight

WILLMAR — The Willmar Middle School presents “Disney Alice in Wonderland Jr.” at 7 p.m. today through Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday at Willmar Senior High School.

The show is based on the 1951 Disney “Alice in Wonderland” and the novels “The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll.

Follow Alice as she chases the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole to Wonderland where she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game.

Playing Alice is Abby Hoffman, with Heidi Schmitz as small Alice and Sarah Carlson as tall Alice.

Mathilda is played by Anna Peterson and the White Rabbit is Erik Heen. The Cheshire Cats are played by Laura Christianson, Ingrid Lindgren and Maddie Peterson.

The Mad Hatter is played by Annika Stenglein, the March Hare by Daphne Barrera and the Dodo Bird by James Bakker.

The Caterpillar is played by Mady Brown, Sydney Benson, Kathryn Gubrud, Joely Palmer and Abigail Thompson.

The Queen of Hearts is Maddie Thaden, the King of Hearts is Harley Anez and the Doorknob is Ethan Bos. Tweedle Dee is Emilee Lowery and Tweedle Dum is Sonja Madsen.

The flowers are played by Olivia Corneil, Makenna Hogan, Sydney Lanning, Isabel LaRue, Amy Linden and Maryssa Rende.

Playing the Royal Cardsmen are Deqa Abdulahi, Ethan Bos, Dylan Buddy, Kaitlin Danziesen, Kristen Dimler, Megan Engel, Karina Gonzalez, Cassidy Hanson, Catrina Janitschke, Gaby Jasso, Amanda Mathiasen, Noah Ouren and Brooke Wittwer.

The Unbirthday Partiers are Rebecca Anfinson, Makenna Brouwer, Lindsey Grabow, Leah Hansen, Paige Hanson, Lauren Knight, Lindsey Peters, Anna Peterson, Josiah Swanson, Faith Swenson, Makenna Taylor, Maeve Winter and Olivia Wodash.

Playing Rock Lobsters and Sea Creatures are Marquis Christenson, Tessa Engelkes, Caleb Fink, Julia Iverson, Heather Jorschumb, Brady Lowery, Ethan Norby, Jeremy Pierskalla, Anna Rice, Annie Schaefbauer and Rafael Zelaya.

Running the lights and sound are Alan Mangen, Spencer Enstad, Logan Blumhoefer, Hannah Huseby, Carson Selander, Brady Newcomer, Avery Hovland, Preston Iverson, Michaela Jahnke and Blake Anderson.

Stage crew members are Liz Mangen, Gabe Benson, Becky Arnold, Alexis Engelkes and Kenzie Ouren.

The set construction and painting were done by Theresa, Maeve and Leighton Winter; Andrew and Sydney Benson; Drew Hoffman; Scott Thompson; Ray Stenglein; Ginger Engelkes; Traci and Ethan Bos; Meryl Bos; Darcy, Kristen, Kate, Reier and Marcus Dimler; Kristen, Maddie and Julia Thaden; Margaret Lanning; Jon Gubrud; Kim Hanson; Bob and Makenna Hogan; and Evan and Marin Wallestad.

The play is directed by Travis Michelson and Melissa Wallestad, with choreography by Kari Michelson.

Steve Trochlil is in charge of orchestration and Terry Brau in charge of lights and sound.

Costume design is by Carol Parker; Christine Lindgren did the Cheshire Cat costumes.

The set design was by Sara Bos and directing the set construction was Neal Haugen and Bryan Mara. Shannon Cayler is in charge of tickets and publicity.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students in kindergarten through grade 12, free for children under 5, if sitting on an adult’s lap. Tickets are available through Friday at the Willmar Community Education and Recreation office at Jefferson Learning Center and one hour prior to the performance at the door if available.
