Willmar, Benson, Montevideo, Olivia and Litchfield are among the cities in the region now under the warning beginning at 9 p.m. today. Snowfall accumulations of 6-10 inches are expected in much of central and southern Minnesota, and some totals could approach 12 inches.

Light snow is possible in Willmar after 4 p.m. today. Snow will mainly begin after 9 p.m., with 2-4 inches possible, and another 2-4 inches during the day Monday. Snow is forecast to continue Monday night in Willmar, with another 2-4 inches possible.

The Weather Service says the snowfall from this storm is expected to be split up into two waves of moderate to heavy snow. The first will come tonight through Monday morning, with a second round expected Monday night through Tuesday morning. The winter storm warning is through noon Tuesday. Snowfall rates are expected to decrease for a period Monday afternoon and evening between these two waves.

Southeast winds gusting to around 25 mph Monday will result in some blowing and drifting snow in open areas.

Caution is urged if traveling as the heavy snowfall could make it dangerous. Road and travel conditions are available on the Minnesota Department of Transportation's 511 website at www.511mn.org.
