WILLMAR -- The old Swenson Motors building will be back in business Monday as home to another company, Willmar Overhead Door.

General Manager Todd Mattison said Willmar Overhead Door simply outgrew its current building due to the support of the community and surrounding area and had been considering properties for several years.

"When this location came up for sale, it had the existing showroom that we needed, and it was on a major highway," Mattison said.

The Swenson Motors building went up for sale after the Swensons sold their business to Mills Auto Group in August. The sale came after an April 2012 fire severely damaged the dealership.

After Willmar Overhead Door purchased the property, they gutted the building to meet their needs.

"The whole interior is new," Mattison said. "We have a huge showroom with 15 doors on display and functioning doors so our customers can see how our doors work."

Mattison said Willmar Overhead Door's current location only has small samples of each option.

"Now, in our new location, we have a mock garage," Mattison said. "When customers walk up to it, there's siding and garage lights on the outside, and when they walk inside, it looks like a garage. They can see how everything is mounted and watch our doors operating."

The new location's warehouse will also be able to hold more inventory and more parts. Mattison said the company had been leasing warehouses to hold doors for agricultural buildings, but that will no longer be necessary. Both the showroom and warehouse of the new location are twice the size of the rooms at the old location.
