Willmar, Minn., School District receives grant for Kennedy Elementary School
WILLMAR -- The Willmar School District has received a $496,000 School Improvement Grant for Kennedy Elementary School in Willmar.
Kennedy has been listed among the lowest-performing schools in the state when it comes to student achievement and achievement gap between minority and white students.
Superintendent Jerry Kjergaard said Friday afternoon that state officials said Willmar's grant application was well-written and thorough.
The district may be eligible to receive similar grants for the next two years.
The SIG funding should come to the district this fall and will allow the school to offer more intense instruction for students who need extra attention.
