Willmar pounds Cold Spring, 15-6

COLD SPRING -- Willmar's bats had no problem making contact Tuesday as the Legion baseball team used a 16-hit attack to drub Cold Spring 15-6.

John Sawatzky, Jordan Smith and Sam Spaulding had three hits apiece and combined to drive in eight runs -- six alone by Spaulding with three coming from a three-run homer in the second inning.

Willmar scored at least one run in the first four innings, including six in the third where Spaulding hit a two-run triple.

Smith led off the sixth with a home run and three more runs would follow in the inning as Willmar would stake a 15-5 lead. Spaulding also singled in a run in the frame.

Adam Fagerstrom and Josh Oestreich collected two hits apiece with Fagerstrom knocking in three runs and Austin Adamson also drove in three runs for Willmar (6-7).

Smith got the win on the mound, scattering six hits and six runs -- two earned -- over six innings of work.

Willmar is at Watkins today to play Eden Valley-Watkins at 6:30 p.m.
