The board is scheduled to go over the 2011-12 school year budget and to approve a contract for Nathan Cox, the new principal at Roosevelt Elementary.

Also on the agenda are contract awards for parking lot repairs and for milk and other products for the food service.

The board will consider a resolution laying off several non-certified staff members because of district finances.

The budget was developed without knowing the levels of state aid for the coming two years. School districts are required to have a budget in place before the next fiscal year begins on July 1.

Because the state's budget is not set for the next two years, there is a concern that state government could shut down on July 1. It's unknown how that would affect public schools around the state, which receive the majority of their funding through the Minnesota Department of Education.

The district leadership developed the 2011-12 budget on the assumption that state funding would stay at current levels. However, the district also projects a decline in enrollment. Since state aid is based on enrollment, state aid to the general operating fund is expected to decrease about $200,000.

With the end of economic stimulus programs, federal aid is expected to decrease about $1.3 million.

The budget to be discussed Monday contains a number of estimates, and it is certain to be revised during the year, as more information becomes available.

The board will listen to public comments related to items on the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Those who want to comment on issues that are not on Monday's agenda may do so at the end of the meeting.

Board meetings are shown live on Willmar local cable access channel 18 and are shown later on channel 19.
