WILLMAR -- The Willmar School Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the board room on the first floor of the Willmar Education and Arts Center.
The board is scheduled to discuss the 2012-13 operating capital budget and projects. The 2013 fiscal year begins on July 1. The budget includes about $1.5 million of projects. That funding is earmarked for capital projects and equipment and cannot be spent for general operating expenses.
The capital budget includes $215,000 for iPad leases. A portion of that will be considered the school district's matching funds for a community fundraising campaign.
Other projects include technology improvements to the district's network, computer labs and computer inventory. Other projects include improvements to plumbing, electrical and ventilation systems in school buildings and parking lot overlays.
The agenda includes labor agreements for custodial and food service workers and a contract for the kitchen and cafeteria remodeling at the Middle School.
The board will also discuss applying for a Safe Routes to School grant from the state. The grants are available to help districts identify barriers that keep students from being able to walk or bike to school.
The board is scheduled to close the meeting after completing other agenda items to discuss strategy for labor negotiations with teachers. State law allows public bodies to close meetings to discuss negotiations strategy. The meetings must be recorded, and the recordings must be made available to the public after a contract is signed.
The board has two times set aside in the agenda to listen to concerns from the public. People who want to speak about agenda items may do so at the beginning of the meeting.
Those who want to talk about other issues are invited to speak at the end of the meeting.
Board meetings are shown live on Willmar local cable access channel 18 and are shown later on channel 19.
