Willmar skates to 5-3 win over River Lakes

WILLMAR -- Erin Sheehan and Chelsey Wierschem both netted two goals Tuesday to help Willmar collect its first Central Lakes Conference win by upending River Lakes, 5-3.

Wierschem scored midway through the first period before River Lakes (2-2, 5-2) tied the game on Rachael Prozinski's goal 2:47 into the second period. The Cardinals (1-3, 4-3) then got goals from Sheehan and Kayte Cole in a span less than four minutes to take control.

Making her second start of the season, Amanda Croonquist got the win in net for Willmar as she made 23 saves against a team that had suffered only one loss entering the game.

Willmar hosts Section 2A rival Hutchinson on Thursday at the Civic Center.
