WILLMAR -- The only thing Sartell did that Willmar didn't was score the first basket of each half. It didn't matter because the Cardinals had no problem collecting their 10th Central Lakes Conference win of the season Thursday.

Willmar shot nearly 60 percent from the field and had Kelsey Evans score a season-high 27 points, allowing the CLC-leading Cardinals to collect a 78-26 win.

Willmar (10-1, 13-3) now owns sole possession of first place in the conference after Little Falls fell to St. Cloud Apollo Thursday. It was the Cardinals' eighth straight win in conference play.

Willmar's half-court man-to-man defense smothered the Sabres (1-8, 3-11) all night as Sartell was able to get off only 25 shots. Willmar forced 29 turnovers while its offense turned the ball over only eight times.

"It was one of those nights," said Willmar coach Brad Atchison. "Everything went well and we were clicking on offense. They made it look easy."

Everyone listed on Willmar's 18-player varsity roster saw action on the court and 10 players scored. Following Evans was Jena Thompson with 16 points while Hannah Smith and Alex Lippert both netted 10 more.

Willmar hosts Brainerd on Saturday night in a key CLC game. The Warriors are tied with Little Falls for second in the conference at 8-2.
