Willmar Stingers: 2 Stingers win weekly awards

WILLMAR -- With the weather heating up, so are several Willmar Stingers players in their college baseball seasons.
Two new members of the Stingers won player-of-the-week honors in their respective conferences in results announced Monday.
Stephen Talbott (Purdue) had a huge weekend series and was named Big Ten Player of the Week. In the West Coast Conference, catcher Dillon Haupt (San Diego) won the award after leading the No. 35 Toreros to a 4-1 record for the week.
Talbott, a junior outfielder for the Boilermakers, went 10-for-17 over the weekend in a three-game sweep of Murray State, including two four-hit games, five RBIs and five runs scored. He raised his season batting average to .442. In the three-game tear, his 10 hits included a double, two triples and his first home run of the season.
Haupt went 7-for-19 with two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs for San Diego during the week. He's batting .364 on the season with a .655 slugging percentage and .439 on-base percentage.

Scott Lieser (St. Cloud State) took his first loss of the season, a 2-1 pitchers' duel to Hawaii Pacific on Friday; Lieser is now 4-1 with a 0.96 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched ... Thomas Taylor (Kansas) also took a loss, giving up four runs in four runs in seven innings to Stony Brook; he has a 3.04 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 26.2 innings ... Hunter Dozier's (Stephen F. Austin) batting average was over .400 for much of the first three weeks of the college baseball season. The junior infielder has started to cool off but is still hitting .339. He has five home runs and 13 RBIs on the season ... Mike Hollenbeck (Illinois State) is batting .318 with 10 RBIs and one home run; he is getting on base at a .475 clip ... Kenny Roberts (Alabama) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in a victory over No. 20 Louisville on Saturday; he is batting .254 with one home run and 10 RBIs ... Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas) continues to rake with a .432 batting average and .596 on-base percentage; he has two triples, and leads the Bears in hits, runs and walks ... Mitch Rowan (Willamette) is batting .313 with three home runs and 11 RBIs; he has 18 walks and just six strikeouts ... Pat Stover (Santa Clara) is hitting .348 with two home runs and leading the Broncos with 17 RBIs; he also has five doubles and is second on the team in hits and total bases ... Max Kuhn (Kentucky) collected his first collegiate hit on March 4 against Illinois-Chicago ... Junior college transfer Corben Green (La.-Monroe) is struggling in his first taste of Division I ball; the first baseman is batting .194 and has struck out 21 times through 72 at bats
