Willmar Stingers promotion schedule released
WILLMAR -- The Willmar Stingers released their 2011 promotional schedule for their 35 home dates this summer.
Last season's promotions were well received and the team has promised several new promotions and more fireworks shows this season.
"Promotions are what makes Northwoods League baseball great," said Stingers co-owner Ryan Voz. "We have 35 home dates and each game has something unique and fun for the entire family."
There will be special guest appearances by a former Minnesota Twins player, along with T.C. Bear and Wally the Beer Man. And SpongeBob SquarePants, the popular Nickelodeon cartoon character, will also make an appearance.
The promotional schedule also includes giveaways such as full-size wood baseball bats, umbrellas, replica jerseys, caps, baseballs and even team trading cards.
There will also be theme nights again, including a Summertime St. Patty's Night where players will wear green jerseys and green hats, the bases will be green and the first 250 fans 21-and-older will receive a Stingers pint glass.
Turn Back the Clock Night will feature a 40-year throwback where the first 250 fans will get a retro baseball cap and players will wear retro jerseys.
And a Salute to Agriculture Night will be themed around the ag industry, including a pre-game cow milking contest and free sweetcorn.
There will likely be more promotions added as the season progresses.
"We're looking at potentually bringing in special guests to add to the promotion schedule throughout the season," said Voz.
The Stingers open the season June 1 at home against the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Bill Taunton Stadium. The opener will feature a fireworks extravaganza after the game. The first 1,000 fans at the game will receive a 2011 magnet schedule.
June 1: Home opener, featuring a post-game fireworks extravaganza. The first 1,000 fans will receive a 2011 Stingers magnet schedule.
June 2: Umbrella Night. The first 250 adults will receive a Stingers umbrella.
June 3: Baseball Cap Night. The first 300 fans will receive a Stingers baseball cap.
June 8: Baseball Night. The first 250 kids 14 years of age and under will receive a Stingers logo baseball.
June 9: Baseball Bat Night. The first 300 kids 14 years of age and under will receive a full-sized 28-inch Stingers baseball bat.
June 11: Post-game Fireworks Night. Pre-game dance routine performed by local dance teams.
June 12: Books and Baseball Night. Families will have the opportunity to read with play-ers/coaches before the game. The first 250 families with a child 4 years of age and under will receive a book.
June 13: Water Bottle Night. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Stingers water bottle.
June 15: Replica Jersey Night. The first 250 kids 14 years of age and under will receive a Stingers replica jersey t-shirt.
June 18: American Cancer Society Night. Pink bats used by the players will be auctioned off for the local American Cancer Society chapter. The first 250 fans will receive a pink wristband.
June 19: Take Dear Ol' Dad to a Ballgame (Father's Day) The first 300 fathers will receive a Stingers t-shirt.
June 22: Guaranteed Win Night. The first 250 fans will receive an envelope with different amounts of comet cash. If by chance, the Stingers would happen to lose, all fans will receive a voucher to a future game as they exit the stadium.
June 23: Hot Dog Hundo Night. Various dollar bills will be located inside hot dog wrappers and one lucky fan will win $100 just for purchasing a hot dog.
June 24: Willmar Fests Night. Willmar Fests candidates will compete to become the Stingers second Annual Willmar Fests Champion.
June 25: Scout Day. Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will participate in on-field activities and all scouts are encouraged to wear their uniform to the game.
June 30: Beer, Brats and Baseball Night. There will be pre-game beer tasting and specialty brats. Contact the Stingers office to purchase tickets to the pre-game event. (Only 200 tickets available for pre-game event).
July 7: Minnesota Twins Night A former Twins player and TC the Bear will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and sign autographs. The first 300 fans will receive a Twins promotional item.
July 8: Green Mill Gift Card Night. The first 250 adults will receive Green Mill gift cards with various dollar amounts on them). One fan will even win the grand prize of a $1,000 gift card.
July 9: Veterans Appreciation Night, including post-game fireworks.
July 10: Guest appearance by SpongeBob SquarePants. The Nickelodeon character will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and take photos with fans.
July 12: Team Poster Night. The first 500 fans will receive a Stingers team poster. This night will also celebrate the Central Minnesota Christian School's 100th anniversary.
July 13: Sold out. Kandiyohi Power Cooperative Night. This night is open to members of the cooperative only. Please contact the Kandiyohi Power Cooperative for more details on tickets.
July 14: Minute to Win It Night. Fans will have an opportunity to win prizes by competing in various contests throughout the game.
July 22: Diamond Dig Night. The first 125 women will receive a scoop and 250 women will compete to find a $1,000 diamond hidden in the infield dirt after the game.
July 23: Get Stung with the Run Stingers 5k run and 1k walk. The race will start at 9 a.m. at Bill Taunton Stadium. Contact the Stingers office to sign up. Also, Run, Bike and Eat Right Night. Fans will register to win four bikes throughout the game. The top finishers from the Stingers 5k run will be awarded during a pre-game ceremony. Plus a post-game fireworks show.
July 24: Willmar Area Shriners Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a toy to the ballpark for children at the Shriners Hospital.
July 28: Once Upon a Time Night featuring your favorite Disney Princesses. The Princesses will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and take photos with kids. Kids wearing their favorite princess dress will receive half price admission.
July 29: Baseball Trading Card Night. The first 500 fans will receive a full team set of Stingers baseball cards. It's also Youth Baseball Night. Come out and celebrate the end of another fun summer of baseball.
July 30: Summertime St. Patty's Night. It's all green ... uniforms, hats, bases and even the beer will be green. The first 250 adults 21-and-older will receive a Stingers pint glass. There will also be a post-game fireworks show.
Aug. 4: Jersey's off our Back Night. Fans will be able to bid on the Stingers player's jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off for the Willmar Lakes Area Food Shelf. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the ballpark for the food shelf.
Aug. 5: Turn Back the Clock to 1971 and celebrate Affiliated Community Medical Center's 40th Anniversary. Stingers players and coaches will be wearing 1971 style uniforms and the first 300 fans will receive a Stingers vintage baseball cap.
Aug. 6: Wine, Women and Baseball Night. Pre-game wine tasting, pampering stations, food and more. Contact the Stingers office for more details on purchasing tickets to the pre-game event. Only 300 tickets are available for pre-game event.
Aug. 9: Salute to Agriculture Night. The entire night will be themed around the Ag industry. Come early for a pre-game cow milking contest, plus all fans will receive free sweet corn.
August 13: Poster Night. The first 500 fans will receive a Stingers poster. There will also be a post-game fireworks show.
August 14: Stingers prizes given away throughout the game including a set of 2012 season tickets. Pre-game Fan Fest will be from 3-5 p.m. and will include player autographs/pictures, food and inflatables for kids.
