Willmar stores report good shopping turnout

Shriner Ron Rosenboom of Willmar rings bells for the Salvation Army Friday in front WalMart in Willmar.

WILLMAR -- Store managers were generally pleased with the turnout of shoppers with dozens of people waiting for some stores to open as early as 3 a.m. as the traditional holiday shopping season began today.

Parking lots were full of vehicles and hundreds of people were walking through the Kandi Mall and other stores along South First Street as they pushed carts and carried bags full of gifts of all kinds.

Many people were seen and overheard calling home to check whether they should buy a particular item. Weary shoppers rested their feet and packages on mall sofas and chairs or took a break at a food stand.
