Willmar nearly forced a second overtime when Nate Esboldt sank a 19-footer from the 3-point line as the buzzer sounded. But it only counted two points when the official ruled his shoe tip was on the line when he lifted off.

Willmar led 65-60 with 40 seconds showing in the second half. But two turnovers sparked a five-point Tech run. The Tigers, who lost 70-52 to Willmar in January, nearly won in regulation as two shots fell off the rim just before time ran out.

Esboldt and Jimmy Unger each finished with 21 points and Alex Grove added 15 more. Esboldt scored 17 of his points post-intermission. Unger drained four 3s the first half and five total.

Willmar (9-6, 12-10) led 30-26 at half.

The Tigers (9-6, 12-10) second-half sure was led by Kevin Heysse, a 6-6 junior forward tallied 15 of his 16 points the last 18 minutes of regulation. Mike Seehusen also finished with 16 points.

The Cardinals will host St. Cloud Apollo on Friday before finishing up in March with games at Rocori and Little Falls at home.
