Willmar Utilities warns of disconnection scam

WILLMAR — The Willmar Municipal Utilities said today a phone scam is being perpetrated on utility customers where the scammer calls utility customers and warns them that their electricity will be cut off unless they wire money to the name and address the scammer gives the customer.

The utility advises customers to not pay these people and to call the Willmar Municipal Utilities to verify you are, in fact, up for disconnection. Willmar Municipal Utilities does not use money wiring or disconnect power without going through the proper process.

Willmar Municipal Utilities can be called at 320-235-4422 to verify any contact made about a customer’s disconnection.
