Willmar improved 7-1 in the Central Lakes Conference and 11-4 overall.

Jordan Smith, Brian Reeves and Taylor Filipek reached double figures with 17, 16 and 13 points, respectively, for the Cardinals.

Willmar had its biggest first half of the season, leading the Storm 52-29 at the break.

Andrew Bangen, a junior guard, was one of the Cardinal reserves who benefitted from the halftime bulge. Bangen hit a pair of three-pointers and also deposited both of his free-throw attempts for a career-best eight points. Ryan Filipek had seven points.

The Cardinals' second game in 24 hours was likely a welcome sight. The night before, Willmar had lost at home, 78-74, to section rival Marshall in a non-conference game.

Sauk Rapids (4-5, 7-7) was outmanned underneath and relied on its guards for scoring.

The Storm got 15 points from Tyler Stein, who made a trio of treys, and 12 from Chris Wichteman. Forward Jordan Christianson added nine points.

The Cardinals will next play at Sartell in another Central Lakes Conference game on Friday.
