Willmar wind turbines return to service
WILLMAR — A spokesman for Willmar Municipal Utilities says the utilities’ two wind turbines returned to service Wednesday morning after installation was successfully completed of two high-voltage breakers. A breaker was installed at the base of each wind turbine tower.
The installation and successful commissioning of the new breakers was accomplished with the aid of a DeWind engineer flown in from Germany for the replacement. DeWind is the turbine manufacturer. Scheduled annual maintenance of both wind turbines was also completed this week.
The turbines had not been functioning for the past several months due to challenges encountered by the utility in obtaining and having replacement breakers delivered to Willmar. The cost is covered under warranty.
