The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the district the certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting.

Superintendent Jerry Kjergaard announced the award at the School Board meeting this week. He congratulated Business and Finance Director Pam Harrington and her staff on earning the award for its annual financial report.

According to a news release from the association, Willmar was chosen by a panel for demonstrating a "spirit of full disclosure" in telling the public about its financial situation.

The association is a nonprofit association serving 17,500 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada. The certificate of achievement is the highest award in government accounting and financial reporting.
