Willmar wins twice to gain Legion state tourney

LITCHFIELD -- The Willmar Legion Post 167 baseball team won the District 7, Division I Tournament on Saturday defeating Litchfield in back-to-back games at Optimist Park 10-3 and 9-4.

Jake Rambow pitched eight innings in Game 1 and Jake Damhof went all nine innings in Game 2 on a five-hitter.

Willmar went through the elimination bracket 4-0 after losing the opener 10-5 to Litchfield on Thursday in Alexandria. The championship round was moved to Litchfield after heavy rains in Alexandria early in the morning.

Willmar will play the District 10 champion on Friday in Edina.

Willmar scored six runs in the first in Game 1 and finished with 14 hits. Nathanial Swoyer was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Litchfield's freshman Eduardo Estrada doubled and singled and drove home two runs.

Willmar also jumped out in Game 2, this time to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Ryan Horning and Rambow, at the top of the line-up, combined for six hits with Rambow driving home four runs.
