Willmar woman accused of fleeing police, shoplifting
WILLMAR –– A woman accused of leading police on a chase after being accused of shoplifting 12 perfume bottles at the Family Dollar Store on Litchfield Avenue in Willmar made her first appearance in court on Friday.
Susie Rodriguez Luna, 47, of Willmar, is charged with a felony count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor theft.
The complaint charges that a Kandiyohi County sheriff’s deputy pursued Luna in a squad car after she left the store in a Honda Prelude at 12:54 p.m. on Thursday. Two Willmar police officers alerted to the situation placed a squad vehicle with flashing lights and siren activated on the traffic lanes of Lakeland Avenue where she was being pursued. The complaint alleges that she drove around the vehicle, nearly hitting it.
The pursuing officer stopped the defendant in the Regency East mobile home lot. An open purse in the car held a dozen bottles of perfume, jewelry, coloring books, bead kits and articles of clothing. An attendant at the store reported seeing the Luna steal perfume bottles, according to the complaint.
After her arrest, Luna allegedly admitted to stealing the perfume bottles and knowing that she was being pursued by an officer, but denied trying to flee.
