Willmar's brush site opens today; county landfill begins summer hours
WILLMAR -- The city of Willmar's Brush Disposal/Compost Site opens for the season today, according to the city Public Works Department.
The site is located 3 miles west of Willmar on state Highway 40 to County Road 116 (75th Street Southwest, turn left and go 1 mile south, and then turn right. This site is 1/2 mile west of County Road 116.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The site is open for city of Willmar residents only. Absolutely no lumber or garbage of any kind is accepted. No firewood may be removed.
The compost facility will accept leaves, grass clippings and garden clippings only. Residents should note that leaves, grass, and garden materials must be separated from brush and branches.
No boxes, plastic bags or plastic of any type may be left at the site.
Finished compost material is available for general public use. Mechanical loading is prohibited.
Questions regarding brush disposal or compost will be taken at the Public Works Office at 320-235-4252.
The Kandiyohi County Sanitary Landfill also accepts brush and leaves at no charge. For information, call 320-354-2707. The county has announced that the landfill has begun its summer hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The landfill is located at 15650 Highway. 71 N.E.
