Willmar's Hassan 1st at Optimist Invite

Willmar senior Mahad Hassan covered the green carpeted hills of the back nine at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in 16:09 for 5,000 meters to win his home meet on Saturday. The Optimist Invitational drew 10 teams from as far way as Bismarck and Fargo, N.D.

The Moorhead boys and the Bismarck Century girls won team titles. The Willmar boys were third and the Cardinal girls seventh, led by junior Jayne Cole in 10th place. Jamie Piepenburg of Alexandria won the girls 4,000-meter race in 15:03.

Hassan also won the Apple Valley Invitational the previous Saturday.
