Wilson to resign as director of public works for city of Willmar, Minn.

WILLMAR -- Willmar Public Works Director/City Engineer Holly Wilson will be resigning her position to take a job as city administrator for Pine City. Her last day of work for the city of Willmar will be Sept. 14.

In a memorandum Thursday to Willmar City Administrator Charlene Stevens, Wilson said she has appreciated the opportunities she has been given and the professional guidance and support she received from administration, City Council and staff.

Stevens said Friday that Wilson has been a very good employee for the city of Willmar. Stevens is sorry to see her leave but wishes her well as Pine City city administrator.

During the interim when the city does not have an engineer on staff, the city most likely will have to contract for some engineering services, and a decision has yet to be made as to who will be responsible for Public Works oversight.

"I haven't yet determined that, but we'll have to deal with an interim management structure with somebody being in charge of the Public Works day-to-day,'' said Stevens.

"But because we will no longer have a licensed professional engineer on staff we most likely will have to have some kind of contract for services so that plans and such can be prepared and signed for what we need for the specifics of the engineering,'' said Stevens.

Wilson started with the city as assistant engineer in January 2008. After Public Works Director Mel Odens resigned in July 2010 to take a position as assistant district engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Willmar, Wilson was named interim public works director. In December 2010 she was appointed public works director.

Wilson's husband, Jeff, formerly K-12 principal with RCW Public Schools, has taken a position as elementary principal at Hinckley-Finlayson Public Schools. The Wilsons will be moving from Renville to Pine City, she said.
