Wind chill to warm after 9 a.m., some snow coming Thursday evening

Very cold wind chill values of 25 below to 35 below zero will continue through 9 a.m. today across west central Minnesota. As temperatures warm this morning, wind chill values will rise above 25 below zero.

West central Minnesota will see mostly sunny skies today, with the high temperatures around 8 above zero. Overnight lows will be around 1 above, with wind chill values as low as 16 below.

A winter storm is approaching Minnesota expected to arrive Thursday night and Friday. This storm is moving out the Rockies today into the central U.S. today, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the central plains.

The snowfall is expected to reach Minnesota by Thursday night. Snow falls amounts exceeding 6 inches are possible, especially along and south of a line from St. James to Mankato to Red Wing.

The snow is expect to spread north and east to reach central Minnesota and into Wisconsin, with amounts tapering off to 2 to 3 inches across west central Minnesota,

The snow fall is then expected to slowly taper off through much of Friday.

The greatest snowfall accumulations will likely be along Interstate 90 in south central Minnesota.
