Winter returns to region but little snowfall expected in west central Minnesota
WILLMAR -- Rain, snow and sleet are in the forecast today for Willmar and the region, though the accumulation is expected to be minimal.
Farther to the southwest in areas including Marshall and Worthington, the National Weather Service in Sioux falls, S.D., issued a winter weather advisory late Sunday and into today for a mix of wet snow, sleet and even rain and freezing rain. Those areas were forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches, with as much as 3 to 4 inches expected in eastern South Dakota.
The advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. for southwestern Minnesota, including the counties of Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock.
No advisories had been issued for west central Minnesota, and accumulations of less than an inch are forecast today.
The high today in Willmar is forecast to be 40. Tuesday is expected to be warm and sunny. A chance of snow returns Wednesday and Thursday.
