Kandiyohi and Stearns counties are in a winter weather advisory, with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected.

The forecast includes the first significant snow of the season. Storm snowfall totals are expected to be between 6 and 10 inches, with isolated totals near 12 inches, along a line running from Mankato to the Twin Cities and Hinckley.

The precipitation may begin as rain and then turn to snow, beginning early Saturday morning and continuing through Saturday night and will create difficult travel conditions with an increase in wind speeds.

Citizens are urged to expect hazardous travel conditions in the warned area. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to use their winter driving skills, including checking road conditions at www.511mn.org or by calling 511, planning extra time, being patient, staying back and staying alert near snowplows working to improve road conditions.
