Winter storm warning remains through Thursday evening for west central Minn.

WILLMAR — The winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday in west central Minnesota.

Weather Service forecasters expect the wintry mix to change over to snow by late this afternoon, with the heaviest snow coming from tonight into Thursday morning.

The snowfall totals for much of southwestern and west central Minnesota will be 8 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts. In addition, more than 0.10 of an inch of ice is expected in the south central portion of the state.

Little or no ice is expected in west central Minnesota.

Travel is expected to become hazardous, with strong winds causing difficult road conditions.

As of 10 a.m., road conditions in Kandiyohi, Yellow Medicine, Meeker and Chippewa counties were rated as fair, with good driving conditions in Swift County. Conditions in Renville County ranged from good in the southern portion of the county, with fair conditions on U.S. Highway 212 and difficult conditions on U.S. Highway 71.
