Winter storm watch begins early Tuesday for west central Minn.

WILLMAR — The National Weather Serivce Twin Cities office in Chanhassen is forecasting a late-season winter storm to affect west and central Minnesota from Tuesday through Thursday.

The Weather Service says snowfall accumulations of 6 inches or greater are possible across much of west central and central Minnesota from early Tuesday morning through Thursday morning, and a winter storm watch has been issued starting at 3 a.m. Tuesday, including the cities of Willmar, Benson, Montevideo, Olivia and Litchfield.

The precipitation is expected to begin as a wintry mix of sleet and snow late tonight across west central Minnesota and expand eastward throughout the day Tuesday.

Snow will be the primary precipitation type across far west central Minnesota near Alexandria and Morris, with a mixture farther south and east.

Colder air will turn the precipitation to all snow, with accumulating snow expected in all areas Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
