The National Weather Service is forecasting that this morning's rain and drizzle will turn to snow in west central Minnesota this afternoon, with not quite an inch of accumulation expected from the snow fall in the Willmar area today. Areas to the north and west will see more, with two to four inches of snow possible around Alexandria and Morris. Some areas north and west of a line running from Montevideo to St. Cloud may see light freezing rain, according to the weather service.

A finger of dry air will provide a short reprieve this evening before round two strikes early Friday afternoon. Temperatures will drop to the single digits and four to six inches of snow could fall Friday into Saturday in West Central Minnesota. Winds will increase from 9 to 12 miles per hour on Friday to 17 to 20 with gusts of 29 miles per hour in the night hours.

Snow fall amounts to the north and west of a line from Canby to Alexandria could in the range of six to 10 inches. Travelers headed east of a line roughly from St. Cloud to Sioux Falls, S.D. could see a mix of sleet and snow through the storm on Friday.
