Winter storm watch in effect this weekend for much of west central Minnesota

WILLMAR -- A winter storm watch has been issued from late Saturday night through late Sunday night for Willmar and much of the west central Minnesota region.

A 50 percent chance of snow after midnight is forecast for late Saturday night, with lows around 20. Northeast winds are expected at 10 to 15 mph.

Snow and sleet accumulation of 5 to 6 inches is in the forecast for Sunday, with moderate snow accumulations Sunday night in Kandiyohi County, as well as Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa and Yellow Medicine counties.

The forecast is much the same in Renville and Redwood counties, which could also see ice accumulation up to one-tenth of an inch.

To the northwest, Pope County can expect similar snow accumulations, with less sleet, according to forecasters.

Highs are expected around 25 on Sunday, with lows around 10 above.

Monday's forecast is for mostly cloudy skies, with a chance of snow in the morning, then a slight chance of snow in the afternoon. Chance of snow is 50 percent, with highs around 25.
