Winter weather advisory issued for parts of west central Minn.
WILLMAR - A winter weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Chanhassen Thursday for parts of west central Minnesota, including Yellow Medicine, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Renville, Meeker, McLeod and Redwood counties.
A significant winter storm is currently moving into Iowa this afternoon and much of that state is now under a winter storm warning. A strong area of low pressure continues to enter the south plains Thursday and push into the Mid-Mississippi Valley by Friday morning.
Accumulating snow will spread into south central Minnesota this evening and then lift northeast across central Minnesota and into Wisconsin after midnight.
Snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected by Friday afternoon across east central and south central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin. The higher snow totals will be found along Interstate 90.
In Minnesota, the area affected is located mainly east of a line from Montevideo to St. Cloud to Rush City. The accumulating snow is expected to slowly taper off across west central Minnesota by Friday afternoon.
