Winter weather predicted for Thanksgiving break
WILLMAR -- Look for possible servings of snow, sleet and freezing rain as you prepare for the annual Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a winter weather advisory for all of central and southern Minnesota including the Willmar area from 6 a.m. today to midnight.
The Weather Service says a very complex precipitation event will unfold, bringing a mix of snow and freezing drizzle along and northwest of a line from Canby to Litchfield to Mora. The area could receive from 1 to 3 inches of snow mainly during the late morning and into the afternoon.
This weather event will occur during the busiest travel day of the year before Thanksgiving and the precipitation mixture will cause roads to become slippery during the day, resulting in hazardous travel conditions, the Weather Service says. Forecasters urge travelers to check weather and road conditions before heading out and to prepare for extra time to arrive safely at destinations.
