The infant was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital by witnesses to the incident, around 8 p.m. in Regency Estates West, 400 30th Street Northwest. The child was held for observation and is now in the protective custody of county family services, according to Willmar police reports.

Charges filed against the woman, who has not yet made a court appearance, may include criminal vehicular operation, driving while impaired, reckless driving, driving after revocation, no proof of insurance and a child restraint violation.

According to Willmar police reports, the woman was involved in a domestic incident with a man. Both adults left the home and got into the vehicle with the woman driving, while the infant was placed in the backseat of the 1992 Lincoln Towncar. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving fast and making a hard left turn, causing the rear passenger door to come open and the baby and a car seat to be ejected from the vehicle. The child was not buckled into the seat, nor was the seat properly attached with the vehicle's seatbelts.

The report states the man walked away from the scene and the woman left in the car, only to return later. She was arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Center.
