Woman dies in train accident in Atwater

ATWATER -- An adult female died Tuesday on the railroad tracks in downtown Atwater after an apparent accident involving a train at about 4:45 p.m.

Few details of the accident are known. It held up the train until 7 p.m., Atwater Police Chief Reed Schmidt said.

By about 6 p.m., the train's engines and a few of the cars were being disconnected and pulled away from the rest of the train to allow access to remove the woman's body, which was under a train car.

Schmidt, Atwater Ambulance, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office and the Kandiyohi County Coroner responded to the accident.

No other information was available at press time.
