COON RAPIDS — The Ridgewater women’s basketball team was on the verge of an upset in Region 13A playoffs but fell just short in the end, losing 82-79 to Anoka-Ramsey on Saturday.

The Warriors led by 10 point at halftime, thanks to 60 percent shooting overall and from the 3-point line.

But individual efforts by the Golden Rams’ Olivia Antilla (26 points) and Maria Loughlin (22 points) proved too difficult to overcome.

“We had an amazing first half but we knew it wasn’t going to be a big enough lead,” said Warriors head coach Carrie Ogdahl. “I think we outplayed them in all aspects, they just have two girls who really know how to score.”

The Warriors also were hurt by committing 10 more turnovers than the Rams and by being outscored by 10 points at the free throw line.

“We had chances at the end,” Ogdahl said. “But we made key turnovers when we should have had looks at the basket.”

Ridgewater also lost top player Jessie Kalenberg, who suffered a knee injury with about 3-1/2 minutes to play.

“Obviously, it hurt us losing her,” Ogdahl said. “I think we would have had a few more looks at the basket in the end if we had her on the floor.”

Raeann Sorenson and Rachel Wuertz led the Warriors with 18 points apiece and Courtney Kramer finished with 17. Wuertz had 8 rebounds, Sorenson grabbed 7 and Amanda Schumacher, who scored 11 points, had 6.

Kalenberg ended her Warrior career with 8 points and 11 assists. Ridgewater also loses sophomores Sorenson and Kramer.

“I’m happy with the year,” Ogdahl said. “Now, we’ve got to get some recruiting done.”
