Women's basketball: Ridgewater edges Mesabi Range

GRAND RAPIDS — The Ridgewater women’s basketball team put some new players on the court and it led to ragged play at times against Mesabi Range in the Itasca Invitational on Friday.
But the Warriors’ veterans continued to come through at key times and Ridgewater came away with a 50-43 victory.
Warriors coach Carrie Ogdahl said a couple of players were ineligible to play and former area prep players Katie Knisley and Paige Wilner — both former ACGC standouts — were only recently added to the roster.
“It was a new look, we’re very out of shape and we didn’t shoot well,” Ogdahl said. “But our girls dug deep. They don’t want to lose.”
Ridgewater improved to 9-2 and will play Itasca in the second day of the tournament at 3 p.m. today.
On Friday, a balanced attack, led by Courtney Kramer (12 points), Cameo McNeley (10), Jessie Kalenberg (9), Raeann Sorenson (8) and Lynsey Runke (6) got the Warriors going in the second half.
Knisley played and added 5 points and 2 steals.
Kalenberg had 8 rebounds and McNeleny had 7, and Runke had 5 boards and 7 assists.
“We’ve had a lot of changes in our roster but we have five girls really going at it,” Ogdahl said. “We just have to learn to get these new girls worked in there.”
