Women's basketball: Warriors fall to Bethel JV

WILLMAR — Bethel’s defense was the key in a 60-46 win over Ridgewater College on Wednesday night.
Ridgewater managed just 45 shots — Bethel shot 15 more — and the Warriors hit just 13 shots from the field. Bethel hit 23 field goals.
The Warriors also turned the ball over 24 times compared to Bethel’s 14.
The loss wasn’t fun to absorb but the experience will be beneficial as Ridgewater heads into its MCAC schedule on Saturday at Rochester, said head coach Carrie Ogdahl.
“Bethel played good defense and that’s good for us because our conference (opponents) play defense like that,” Ogdahl said.
Ridgewater’s Raeann Sorenson scored 15 points but no other Warrior cracked double figures.
Cameo McNeley led the Warriors with 9 rebounds.
Ridgewater is breaking in three new players — Paige Wilner, Katie Knisley and Jessica Gilbert — and others are battling illness and getting back into game shape after the holiday break, Ogdahl said.
The 10-3 Warriors had developed a chemistry that will have to be recharged as the second half of the season begins, she said.
“This team so far has played well together without explanation,” Ogdahl said. “Now, we have to figure out how to continue that and how to play together with the new players.”
