WILLMAR — The Ridgewater Warriors overcame Vermilion College with key free throws 70-67 on Saturday in an inter-division matchup that revealed a lineup with some depth.

Raeann Sorenson (20 points) was 8 of 10 at the line, Brooke Wuertz (18 points) made 9 of 14 and Rachel Ampe (8 points) drained 6 of 8 tries.

Ridgewater is playing without point guard Jessie Kalenberg (high ankle sprain) and lost wing Shantel Kelly in the first half with a thumb injury.

Even without Kalenberg, head coach Carrie Ogdahl has an uncharacteristically long bench with six reserves to share in the action.

Willmar took a quick 22-8 lead and led by six at half, 30-24. But with Tyesha Wright (22 points) and Mariah McDonald (20 points) combining for five 3s in the second half, the visitors caught up and went ahead by five.

But in the final minutes the Warriors caught up and went ahead. Kramer sank a jumper from beside the key to knot the score 67-all with 47 seconds showing. Sorenson and Wuertz, fouled off a defensive rebound, made free throws in the last 15 seconds to put RC up by three at the end.

Datri Jensen, Brooke Hein, Amanda Schumacher, Chelsea Ahl, Catie Sherman and Samantha Meade were among those playing significant minutes off the bench.
