GRANITE FALLS -- A Wood Lake couple face 13 felony charges and owe the State of Minnesota more than $43,000 in taxes, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
The Yellow Medicine County attorney's office filed the criminal charges for failure to pay taxes against Robert Cunningham, 42, and his wife, Ann Cunningham, 43. Both have made first appearances in court on the charges, during which they asked for legal counsel, according to Yellow Medicine County Attorney Keith Helgeson.
Robert Cunningham is charged with six counts of failing to file returns, six counts of failing to pay taxes, and one count of identity theft for tax years 2002 through 2007, according to information provided by the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
Ann Marie is charged with two counts of failing to file returns and two counts of failing to pay taxes for 2006 and 2007.
According to the complaint, Robert twice used his mother's social security number to claim income. When his mother asked him why he was doing this, Robert said he does not pay taxes and never will.
The Department alleges that neither Robert nor Ann have filed income tax returns for 2006 and 2007.
The complaint states that Robert's compensation for these two years from a trucking company totaled more than $153,000.
