Demolition will begin Thursday with completion of reconstruction and reopening set in mid-November, they said.

Knoop and Thompson said the $356,068 project will reconfigure the restaurant from the current east-west orientation to a north-south orientation and provide space for increasing the drive-up business from one lane to two lanes.

The 3,514-square-foot facility will have an occupancy load of 99 individuals, and parking will be increased.

Knoop and Thompson's other Burger King restaurant at 1611 Highway 12 E. will continue to operate.

During the interim, some of the nearly 40 employees at the First Street restaurant will be working at the eastside restaurant, some will take vacation and some will work at other stores, Knoop and Thompson said.

Employment is expected to increase to 50 when the restaurant reopens, they said.

Burger King has been in Willmar since 1984. Quick Stop Properties has 11 locations in Minnesota.

TerWisscha Construction Inc. of Willmar is the general contractor and there are 23 subcontractors involved in the project including 15 from the Willmar area, according to a list provided by TerWisscha.
