Wyman hearing cancelled after he fails to appear, warrant remains

WILLMAR -- A review hearing for Andrew Charles Wyman, 18, of Willmar, was cancelled this afternoon after he failed to appear before District Judge Kathryn N. Smith in Kandiyohi County District Court.

Wyman, who has a warrant issued for his arrest, absconded from Prairie Lakes Youth Programs on Feb. 19. He was sentenced, as a juvenile, in September to Prairie Lakes Youth Programs for his role in the two-week crime spree of stealing and destroying vehicles and setting fire to an occupied Willmar residence.

According to the apprehension and detention order issued by Smith, Wyman and his roommate left the Prairie Lakes non-secure unit. The pair was in bed at lights out, but were gone when the facility's staff checked on them sometime later. They had hidden clothing in their beds to make it look like they were asleep. Wyman's roommate is not named in the order.

Wyman's sentence included a stayed adult sentence of 75 months in prison on the first-degree arson, to be imposed only if he doesn't comply with the juvenile sentence charge. He was also ordered to pay $100,000 restitution in the case.

Wyman's accomplice, Chase John Hodapp, 20, of Willmar, was sentenced Monday to 39 months in prison for his role in the April 19 to May 3 crime spree. He was also ordered to pay $39,219.54 in restitution and $450 in fines.
