GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners voted three-to-two this morning to draw up specifications and call for bids to remodel a former bank building to house county offices.

The vote came after the commissioners learned the remodeling project will cost an estimated $717,568.12, including construction, and architectural and construction management fees.

Commissioners Gary Johnson and Louis Sherlin cast the no votes, while Ron Antony, John Berends and Greg Renneke voted yes.

Johnson said he wanted to wait for two weeks before authorizing the call for bids. He expressed frustration that the remodeling project will cost more than originally anticipated when the county purchased the building for $450,000 last autumn.
