YM County to expand recycling
GRANITE FALLS -- Yellow Medicine County will expand its recycling program to include rural residents.
The Yellow Medicine Board of Commissioners approved a proposal at its meeting Tuesday to purchase units and open drop-off sites to collect recyclables from rural residents, according to Ryan Krosch, county administrator.
The commissioners approved the purchase of four units, each with separate bins for glass, paper and metal recyclables. They will be located at sites in Canby, Clarkfield, Granite Falls and Wood Lake. The commercial haulers responsible for each of the respective areas will transport the recycled goods to Lyon County.
The county contracts with Lyon County for its solid waste and recycling activities.
Paul Henriksen, environmental director for Lyon and Yellow Medicine counties, proposed expanding the recycling efforts to include drop-off sites for rural residents.
Also Tuesday, the commissioners set the Truth-in-Taxation hearing for 7 p.m. Dec. 4.
