Youth psychiatric hospital in Willmar named a top performer
WILLMAR -- An inpatient psychiatric hospital in Willmar that serves children and adolescents has been recognized by a national nonprofit organization that accredits more than 19,000 U.S. health care organizations.
In its 2012 quality and safety report called "Improving America's Hospitals," the Joint Commission's program, Top Performers on Key Quality Measures, cited the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services program in Willmar for meeting or exceeding a 95 percent performance target on accountability measures for inpatient psychiatric services.
The measures were related to admission screening, anti-psychotic medications, and creation and transmission of continuing care plans.
"This recognition is much appreciated validation of the commitment and professionalism of our staff in providing specialized treatment to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance," said Lucinda Jesson, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, which operates the program in Willmar.
The hospital, located on the former Willmar Regional Treatment Center campus, is one of 11 hospitals in Minnesota and 620 hospitals nationwide being recognized in this year's report.
The Top Performers on Key Quality Measures program is designed to be an incentive for achieving excellence on accountability measures and to support organizations in their quest to improve performance, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Department of Human Services.
The program also provides an opportunity for all recognized hospitals to celebrate their achievement.
The Willmar hospital offers youth and their families crisis stabilization, comprehensive assessment and intensive treatment of specialized mental health programs. The program also includes community-based foster home services for youth.
