Zimmermann, Milroy shut down Willmar
WILLMAR -- Mahlon Zimmermann and the Milroy Yankees blanked the Willmar Rails 11-0 in seven innings Wednesday in Cornbelt South amateur baseball action at Bill Taunton Stadium.
Zimmermann pitched all seven innings and gave up two hits. He struck out eight and walked two. The former Redwood Valley High School player struck out the side in the second inning and retired the first 11 batters he faced to start the game.
Willmar's Josh Dahlke had both hits off of Zimmermann. He singled in the fourth inning and led of the seventh with a single. He got as far as third base with the Rails' only scoring threat.
Milroy scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Willmar (6-6, 6-6) held them down for the next four innings.
The Yankees plated three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh.
Micah Gronli led the Yankees with three hits. Brian Dolan had two hits and three RBI.
