Willmar grad on today's game show

WILLMAR -- Willmar native Devin Anderson and his wife, Alison, attended the game show, "Let's Make A Deal" hosted by Wayne Brady in Las Vegas.

They were selected as a couple to appear in the show that will be broadcast at 2 p.m. today on CBS. They are not allowed to reveal what they won, but it could be a car, cash, TV's, a trip, or a Donkey (called a Zonk on the show).

Anderson graduated from Willmar High School in 2000. He is the son of Jim and Gale Anderson of Willmar. He currently lives in St. Louis Park with his wife, Alison, who is from South Dakota.

'Piano month' celebrations slated

MORRIS -- The University of Minnesota in Morris will celebrate "piano month" in February with five events that feature student, faculty, and guest pianists.

There will be recitals by Ksenia Nosikova, Ann DuHamel, Daniel Rieppel and Laura Caviani along with a master class by Nosikova. All events are free and open to the public. The schedule is:

n Ksenia Nosikova, associate professor of piano at the University of Iowa, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall that includes works by Robert Schumann, Frederic Chopin, and Franz Liszt. Nosikova's performances have been praised as "...full of light, warmth, and joy." Her recording of the Italie volume of Franz Liszt's Years of Pilgrimage was called a "super disc" and was chosen as one of six recommendable recordings by International Piano magazine.

n Nosikova will participate in a piano master class from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Recital Hall. Piano students will observe Nosikova's artistry at the piano and two students, Jennifer Riestenberg from Perham and Sarah Mensen from St. Paul, will play.

n Ann DuHamel, newly appointed UMM head of keyboard studies, will give a solo faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in Recital Hall. The Valentine's Day celebration of romantic music will feature the poetic music of Liszt, the philosophical and transcendent music of Beethoven, and the festive fireworks of Schumann's Carnaval.

n Daniel Rieppel, Southwest Minnesota State University associate professor of piano and Southwest Minnesota Orchestra music director, will perform a solo piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in Recital Hall. Rieppel also serves on the faculties of Webster University, Vienna Conservatory of Music, and the St. Paul Conservatory of Music. His ties to Morris began as a youngster taking piano lessons on the Morris campus.

n Jazz pianist Laura Caviani will perform with UMM jazz ensembles as guest soloist for a 2010 Celebration event at 7 p.m. Feb. 19, at the Morris Area Schools Concert Hall. Her playing has been described as "beautiful, intelligent, searching, graceful, witty, warm, and passionate."

Meet the artist today

WILLMAR -- A meet the artist community reception for Alice Essendrup will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today at North American State Bank in Willmar.

A display of Essendrup's water color paintings can be seen in the lobby of the North American Financial Center in Willmar during business hours through May.
