Country Quilters show is this weekend in Willmar
WILLMAR — The Country Quilters 2017 Quilt Show will feature 300 traditional, antique, contemporary and fiber art quilts. Show time is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Willmar Civic Center.
Admission to the biennial show, the guild's major fundraiser, is $5 for adults; children 12 and under will be admitted free.
The 2017 Featured Quilter is Connie Peters. Although she is an accomplished traditional quilter, it is her love for rescuing orphaned antique quilt blocks and unfinished pieced tops from yard sales that highlights her best-known talents. She "lovingly restores" and pieces the antique blocks and then expertly hand quilts the completed tops. The results are described as "nothing short of spectacular."
Presentations throughout the weekend will include topics such as: "English Paper Piecing," "Quilting 101" and "Fun, Great Rulers to make Your Life Easier."
Country Quilters Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the art of quilting. It provides fellowship and learning to people living in Willmar and the surrounding communities who are interested in the traditional craft of quilting as well as its contemporary art forms. The group meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Willmar Community Center.
Funds from the quilt show will be used for education in the art of quilting, and to purchase materials for making charitable quilt gifts. More information is available on the website www.countryquiltersmn.com.
