Meander weekend features celebration of art, community
Hours for the annual Meander are from noon until 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 866-866-5432, or go online at www.artsmeander.org. Brochures can be found at many area businesses in the area which, like the website, has a map detailing the routes to the different studios and stops along the Meander as well as related activities and a list of area sponsors.
The works of 44 artists will be on display during this year's Meander: Upper Minnesota River Arts Crawl this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It's an annual opportunity visit some of the region's best-known artists at their individual and collective studios. It's also a weekend for many of the region's communities to join the spirit of fun and cooperation that is the Meander.
Watson will host an evening of music by noted prairie musician Jerry Ostensoe. He performs at the Historic Watson Town Hall on Friday starting at 7 p.m.
Also on Friday, the Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a creative opening night event of a "Musical Chairs" progressive dinner that includes exhibiting Meander artwork paired with local musicians at five different locations.
"We're very excited about our Musical Chairs event," said Chamber organizer Mary Gillespie. "It promises to be fun and a little different from what we've done before."
The Dawson-Boyd Arts Association will feature a concert by New Standards Trio at the Dawson Memorial Auditorium on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m.
"Every year, the Arts Association searches for a Minnesota-based group to perform during Meander Weekend. This year, The New Standards is the perfect group for this great celebration of the arts in western Minnesota," says performing arts director Luanne Fondell.
