Today is officially "Prince Day" in the state of Minnesota, in honor of the legacy of the iconic musician — and Minnesota native — who died earlier this year at age 57.
Today would have been Prince's 58th birthday.
Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Gov. Tina Smith issued a proclamation Monday declaring the day "to celebrate Prince's life and many contributions — not only in arts and culture, but also in his many acts of service to his fellow Minnesotans," according to a news release.
Minnesotans are encouraged to wear purple today in honor of the musician, who died unexpectedly on April 21.
If you are wearing purple, please snap a photo and send it to email@example.com for possible publication.
