Cardettes Dance Show is tonight at Kennedy Elementary in Willmar, Minn.
WILLMAR — The Willmar Cardettes will present their first annual Cardettes Dance Show today at the Kennedy Elementary School gym.
The show will feature the entire group and also dance solos, duets and ensembles.
The Cardettes have completed their competitive season, and it seemed like a good idea to present a local show, too, said head coach Alli Lampman.
Lampman and assistant Brenda Jergenson are in their first year as coaches.
They hope the show will showcase the talents of the school’s dance team and generate interest among potential members.
The team will have an informational meeting for students in grades 7-11 on Friday, and tryouts for next year will be in the first week of March. The team does fundraising and conditioning over the summer, then begins working on choreography and putting together its routines in the fall, they said.
Annika Bergstrom, 18, a senior said she is excited for the show, which the team hasn’t done before.
“It makes us feel valued as dancers,” she said, and they have been enjoying the work on the small group routines, which the girls have developed themselves.
Bergstrom said the members of the team develop a close relationship over the course of a season. She’s been on the team since she was a freshman.
“I don’t think we will lose touch with our dance team girls,” she said. “We’re like sisters.”
Jergenson said she used to watch the dance team from the stands, but she had no idea how much work went into their shows. “It’s a tough sport,” Lampman said.
“Very competitive,” added Jergenson.
