Sibley State Park

Interpretive Center open during the week; call 320-354-2002 for hours.

Sibley State park programs are on the weekends at the Interpretive Center and are led by the park naturalist or visiting expert. A vehicle permit is required to enter the park and they are available at the park office. For more information call 320-354-2002.

Mt. Tom story: 10 a.m. today; northern Kandiyohi County is a beautiful area of rolling wooded hills, wetlands and lakes; meet atop Mount Tom, one of the highest landmarks in 50 miles, and explore the processes that shaped the land.

Minnesota's State Symbols: 2 p.m. today; find out how the Minnesota state bird, flower and even muffin came to be during this PowerPoint presentation and discussion program.

Pondview trail walk: 10 a.m. Friday; explore the wetland bird life, insect eating plants, dragonflies and why wetlands are important for people too during this talk and walk.

Remarkable Reptiles: 2 p.m. Friday; Sibley is home for 11 of the 29 species of reptiles found in Minnesota, learn about snakes, turtles and lizards.

Monarch's miracle: 10 a.m. Saturday; PowerPoint presentation on the changes in this butterfly and its migration.

Granite, Oak and Men: 2 p.m. Saturday; the beautiful and skillfully constructed buildings in Sibley were built by unemployed World War I veterans who lived and worked here from 1935-38, a PowerPoint presentation and talk explores the work and lives of the men of Sibley's Three Bears Camp.

Wildflowers I.D. and use: 11 a.m. Sunday; take a stroll to examine and identify wildflowers and explore their uses and history.

Fish features and facts: 2 p.m. Sunday; using fish pillows and posters, examine fish parts, fish life, and Minnesota fish facts.

Bald Eagle: 10 a.m. Monday; a PowerPoint program examines the life, culture and history dedicated to our national symbol, the bald eagle plus discover the bald eagles of Sibley.

Lower Sioux Agency

The Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site is nine miles east of Redwood Falls on Redwood County 2. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and holidays and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Footprints of History: Join a guided tour which will offer insights into traditional Dakota culture; how the lives of the Dakota changed because of government policies and treaties; the role and purpose of the Lower Sioux Agency; how the Agency would have looked 150 years ago; and the events that led up to the U.S.-Dakota War. Tours begin at 11 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday, 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday.
